How to get tickets for El Clasico, April 2012 Barcelona v Real Madrid
It was not to be for Real Madrid in 2011. Predictions of "a change at the top" are premature, although Madrid should finish 2011 at the top of La Liga. Are you dreaming of watching the rematch? The Barcelona v Real Madrid match in person from the stands of the Nou Camp Stadium? Undoubtedly the world's premier football match and a sporting experience to tell your grandchildren. A festival of football, watched by fans from all over the world. But how can you find tickets ?
Attending the big matches in Spain is a bit like being invited to a private party. The problem is that not many "tickets" (printed paper things !) go on sale. This is because almost all of the seats at the Nou Camp FC Barcelona stadium already belong to one of the "members" of the club. Yup, Spanish football clubs are bit like a private sports club. Therefore no matter how long in advance you are prepared to stump up and apply, there is hardly any chance of obtaining paper tickets.
So, are tickets to El Clasico available?
The Barcelona members or season ticket holders of course know the value of what they have and many are happy to make a gift of their ticket to someone else. In fact, for many of these Barca fans, the joy of making this gift (even to a perfect stranger) compensates amost 100% the financial burden of renewing their membership at the start of the season !
How do people find El Clasico tickets?
If you live in Spain you may know someone who is a member or whose family hold the coveted FC Barcelona members cards. This is your ticket to the match. Is that the answer you were hoping for ? Well, maybe not. In common with much of Spanish society, if you are "in", you are well in. However if you are not in that position (like 99% of non Spanish football fans who love Barcelona or Real Madrid !) you will need someone in Spain who does have access to these members cards or tickets. Most people travelling to see El Clasico from outside Spain therefore contact a reliable agency in order to see the match.
Getting to the Nou Camp stadium.
Why not walk, Barcelona is a beautiful city and great for a walk on a Spring night. The Barcelona metro system also works well (get off at Metro stops Collblanc, Les Corts or Maria Cristina).
